Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do with my box once i receive it?
Open it! Seedlings love light and won't enjoy being kept in the dark for days and days on end. Once you have opened the box, take the seedlings out and give everything a drink with water or a liquid feeding solution (we use compost tea or seaweed based liquid fertiliser). You can either bottom water by putting them into a tray of liquid to soak it up OR you can top water with a hose or watering can. The seedlings contained within the protective wool mats can be soaked while still in their wool wrapping or you can take them out to soak them. Once soaked - plant as soon as you can.
Do you use sustainable products?
We do our best to use as many products that are either compostable or recyclable as possible. Our packaging includes cardboard, paper, NZ wool and recyclable tape which can all be used in the garden or be recycled. We are committed to improving our sustainability efforts. If you have any ideas for how we can improve in this area, we would love to hear from you - growwithfarmlet@gmail.com.
How many seedlings will be in each box? What kind of seedlings will be in each box?
Each box has a variable amount of seedlings depending on what is in season but we aim for at least 13-16 seedlings per month. In winter our boxes are likely to have a higher number of smaller seedlings such as brassicas, lettuce, and greens (plus more!). Whereas in summer, our boxes will have a smaller amount of larger seedling such as tomatoes, melons, pumpkins, cucumbers etc. We include a large variety of seedlings in our boxes - all of the things we like to eat here at Farmlet - and more, as we know everyone has different tastes. Some of the seedlings you may find in your box throughout the year include cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant, melons, brassicas, spring onions, spinach, lettuce, peas and much much more!
Does the box include anything except seedlings?
Each box comes with seedlings, a packet of seeds which you can sow directly into your garden, a free unique seedling to have fun experimenting with and a newsletter. Each month we will also post an unboxing and planting video on our instagram and facebook pages, with additional tips and tricks so you can grow along with us. This video will be available to watch as soon as you receive your box.
How much space do I need to plant my seedlings each month?
Box contents vary month to month so space requirements will differ slightly each month. However, we recommend having at least 1.5-2 square metres to plant into each month. You will find you can plant seedlings quite close together. We encourage fairly close planting to improve harvest quantity per square metre. After a couple of months you will be harvesting your first crops and replacing them with new seedlings that come in your new boxes to continue the cycle.
Where do you source your seedlings?
We grow them ourselves from seed, on the farm.
Can I change the contents of the monthly box?
Unfortunately not. If there is something in it you do not like growing or eating, feel free to share them with a friend or family member.
When will my box be sent?
Boxes are sent from the farm on the first or second Monday of each month, depending on the size of the seedlings. The product you ordered will state which month your box delivery begins.
Can you deliver to my work? Can you deliver to my rural address?
Yes and Yes! We send via courier so Seedling Mail boxes can be delivered to urban and rural addresses including commercial addresses. Rural courier usually takes an extra day or two to be delivered. Rural delivery will incur an extra cost of $5.80 - please choose the correct option at checkout.
What if I change address?
You can update your address in your customer portal on our website www.growwithfarmlet.co.nz . If you are having trouble we can update your address in our system. Please let us know via email at growwithfarmlet@gmail.com if you need to change your address details.
Can I plant even in winter with the 12 month subscription option?
Of course! We plant year round and eat from our garden year round. My father always says, if you want to be harvesting regularly, you need to plant something every month. Seedlings will grow more slowly in winter but it is still important to be putting seedlings in the ground so we can harvest as often as possible. We love the idea that more people will experience what it means to grow and eat truly seasonally, for the whole year.
Can I buy a gift subscription?
Of course, we love that! You will need to put the recipients information in the shipping address section of checkout. Please email us at growwithfarmlet@gmail.com after ordering your subscription with your order number and a note and we will put it on a card in the first box that goes out to your gift recipient. We will also include the length of the subscription and some information about the subscription in their first box as well.
What is your cancellation policy?
This depends on your subscription selection. If you have signed up for a 6 or 12 month subscription, you cannot cancel your box until the length of your chosen subscription plan has elapsed (for example, a six month subscription plan has a minimum of six monthly payments before cancellation is possible). If you have selected our month-to-month option, you can cancel at anytime. This can be done in your customer portal accessed via our website www.growwithfarmlet.co.nz . If you are having trouble please email us at growwithfarmlet@gmail.com so we can assist you with this.
If you cancel your subscription AFTER a payment has gone out of your account, you will receive the delivery for that corresponding payment and then the subscription will be cancelled from then on.
What are your shipping costs?
Shipping is FREE* if you choose a 6 or 12 month subscription. Shipping is $10* per delivery if you choose the month-to-month subscription option.
* Rural shipping is an additional $5.80 per delivery on any of the three subscription options .
When do I get charged?
You will get charged the cost of the first month (plus shipping costs if any) at the time you make an order. Then you will get charged at the same time each month.
